Summary
Maps on topographic or planimetic bases produced at various scales. They show
results of surveys using geophysical techniques, such as gravity and
aeromagnetic surveys, which reflect subsurface structures that are of economic
or geologic significance

Available Product Coverage
Random. Maps available are catalogued in the following sources:
"Publications of the Geological Survey, 1879-1961", "Publications of the
Geological Survey, 1962-1970","Publications of the U.S. Geological survey, 1971
through 1981", and annual supplements for 1982 and later years. New maps are
listed in the monthly catalog, "New Publications of the U.S. Geological Survey".
These sources are available at Earth Science Information center offices, in
USGS libraries, and may be available at other earth science libraries, such as
those of universities.
Information Content
Geophysical investigation (GP) - Series maps present the
results of geophysical studies of areas that range in size from an entire
country to small areas such as a single mining district only a few square miles
in extent. The data consist mainly of aeromagnetic and/or gravity contours
plotted on planimetric or topographic base maps at appropriate scales. a
generalized geologic map may be included as part of the base. Interpretations
of prominent or significant anomalies are described in the accompanying text.
Also included in the GP Series are seismicity maps showing earthquake epicenter
. Most commonly, GP-Series maps are printed in black and one other color, with
the base screened in black and the contours in red or green. Extremely detailed
or complex maps are printed in multiple colors. The maps are accompanied by an
explanation and, in many cases, by a supplemental text.
